Simula UiB in Bergen, Norway is hiring a permanent Research Scientist / Senior Research Scientist in machine learning or quantum information science . The position sits in the Department of Information Theory , which works on statistical learning theory and quantum information theory . The successful candidate may also contribute to the Centre for Quantum Communication Networks and Applications (QCNA) and SURE-AI, two national Norwegian research centres focused on quantum technology and sustainable, risk-averse, ethical AI. This is a research-focused role with no formal teaching obligation, but the appointee is expected to supervise and mentor PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, contribute to collaborative research, and help develop externally funded projects at national and European levels, including RCN, Horizon Europe, and ERC opportunities. Eligibility highlights: PhD in information theory, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field; strong publication record; experience in statistical learning theory, privacy-preserving machine learning, coding theory, quantum error-correction, quantum computing, quantum communications, or quantum algorithms is advantageous. Applicants should also have supervisory experience, project management experience, and excellent English communication skills.
