This opportunity is designed for motivated candidates with a strong academic background in Ethnology, Social Anthropology, or related humanities and social sciences. The programme offers a diverse range of research topics, including digital research collections, religion in the public sphere, transformation of Roma identities, sensory and affective ecologies, visual archives, contemporary legends and conspiracy theories, Jewish community memory, and transnational families in Central Europe. Supervisors for these projects include Andrej Gogora, Juraj Majo, Elena Maruschiakova – Popova, Jaroslava Panáková, Zuzana Panczová, Monika Vrzgulová, and Martina Wilsch, each bringing expertise in their respective fields. The research environment is interdisciplinary, encouraging theoretical and applied innovation, and offers opportunities for empirical fieldwork, archival research, and participatory methods. Projects may focus on digital humanities, knowledge management, archival science, secular activism, generational and life-stage transformations, ethnic and national identity, multispecies relations, visual and sensory anthropology, folklore, and migration studies. Applicants must possess a Master degree or equivalent and demonstrate proficiency in English for communication with an international scientific audience. The application window is open from May 1 to May 31, 2026. While the position is not funded through the EU Research Framework Programme, candidates are encouraged to inquire about potential funding or support. The programme is based at the Institute’s location in Bratislava, Slovakia, and offers three positions for the upcoming academic year. For further details, visit the programme website at https://uesa.sav.sk/en/phd-programme/ . Applications and inquiries should be directed to [email protected].
