This PhD project focuses on
functional oxide thin films
, especially
layered perovskite-based oxides
, where crystal chemistry, structure, and dimensionality are used to control electric, magnetic, and structural properties. The research combines
thin-film synthesis

Experimental work includes pulsed-laser deposition and magnetron sputtering, structural and functional characterization by X-ray diffraction, scanning-probe microscopy, magnetometry, and synchrotron-based experiments, as well as thin-film device fabrication in a cleanroom. The project also mentions using first-principles calculations and machine-learning foundation models to identify promising metastable compositions for experimental stabilization.

This is a
fully funded doctoral position
for
four years
with a competitive salary according to ETH standards. The group offers access to state-of-the-art deposition and characterization infrastructure and a collaborative, international research environment.
