Doctoral students in software engineering for continuous compliance of software-intensive systems
Doctoral students are invited to join the University of Gothenburg’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering in a research project on continuous compliance of software-intensive systems. The positions are placed in the Division for Interaction Design and Software Engineering, a large and internationally active research environment with strong expertise in AI engineering, software testing, requirements engineering, behavioral software engineering, and automotive software engineering.
The project is part of a broader collaborative effort with industrial and academic partners across sectors such as automotive, telecom, aerospace, industrial automation, manufacturing, and safety- and security-critical systems. The work is connected to the Software Center and its industrial network, with companies including Axis, Bosch, Ericsson, Grundfos, and Volvo.
Research directions include explainability of AI-enabled software products, continuous collection of compliance evidence from development workflows, automated retrieval and structuring of evidence using approaches such as semantic retrieval and knowledge graphs, and runtime traceability that connects requirements, design decisions, implementation, deployment, and operational behavior. The doctoral students will contribute to empirical studies, conceptual models, reference architectures, tool support, and publishable research outcomes in software engineering, requirements engineering, AI engineering, and software systems.
The appointment is a five-year full-time doctoral position, with 80% devoted to doctoral studies and up to 20% possible departmental duties such as teaching, research, or administration. The position leads to a PhD degree. Applicants should have a strong background in software engineering, computer science, data science, or AI engineering, with relevant knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, testing, traceability, software architecture, or software analytics. English fluency is required; Swedish is not.
Supervision is provided by Prof. Eric Knauss, potentially with co-supervision by Dr. Sven Peldszus for two of the positions, and by Prof. Miroslaw Staron for one position.
