Postdoc in Regional Energy Systems Modeling

Postdoc in Regional Energy Systems Modeling at Chalmers University of Technology , Gothenburg, Sweden. This postdoc is based at the Department of Environmental and Energy Sciences and the Division of Energy Technology , where researchers study sustainable energy systems, conversion technologies, and pathways toward carbon-neutral energy and industry. The project is interdisciplinary and examines how the regional level can contribute more effectively to the energy and climate transition, in collaboration with Swedish regions. The research will focus on regional energy systems modelling , including municipal energy cooperation at a regional scale and sector coupling between the heating and electricity sectors. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and apply a regional model for a Swedish region, with the TIMES modelling framework strongly suggested. This position is especially relevant for researchers interested in energy systems assessment and modelling, regional energy governance, spatial aspects of energy, sectoral linkages, mixed methods, and stakeholder interaction. The postdoc will contribute scientific concepts aligned with the project goals, communicate research results, build collaborative links with colleagues and stakeholders, supervise master’s students to some extent, and may participate in teaching at undergraduate or master’s level. Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a doctoral degree in energy systems assessment and modelling or a closely related equivalent foreign degree. Excellent English communication skills are required. Teaching experience is expected, and recent PhD completion within the last three years is considered highly meritorious. Knowledge of Swedish or another Scandinavian language is advantageous because the project language is Swedish. Contract and conditions: the appointment is a temporary full-time post for two years, with the possibility of a one-year extension. Physical presence is required throughout the employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date if applicable. Application deadline: 2026-10-05 at 23:59 (Europe/Stockholm). Applications must be submitted in English via the online application form and uploaded as PDF files. Do not submit by email. Contact: Professor Erik Ahlgren, [email protected].
