The project is a student-led opportunity to co-develop a competitive application for the
British Pharmacological Society (BPS) PhD Funding Programme
for an
October 2027
start. The successful candidate will work directly with
Prof Felicity N. E. Gavins
at the
Centre for Inflammation Research & Translational Medicine (CIRTM)
.
Possible research directions include:
immune ageing
and whether aspects of human immune ageing can be pharmacologically reversed;
cardiovascular disease
and using human immune phenotypes to discover new therapeutic approaches; and
predictive drug responses
using human and/or computational and machine learning approaches to understand immune-mediated drug responses.
The lab’s work combines human and translational pharmacology with access to primary human cell models, advanced imaging, human-relevant vascular platforms, and phenotypic datasets for predictive modelling. The post is especially relevant for students interested in wet-lab research, dry-lab modelling, or a mixed experimental/computational project.
Eligible applicants include strong final-year undergraduates, Master’s students, or recent graduates in pharmacology or related biomedical disciplines such as immunology, biomedical sciences, physics, mathematics, computer science, or data science.
