Felix Engel

The Engel lab at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is offering a PhD position as part of a large project grant (SFB_TRR225) focused on biofabricating functional tissues. The research areas include biofabrication, vascularization, silk, hiPSC, heart, cardiomyocytes, microfluidics, and endothelial cells. The lab is highly interdisciplinary and international, comprising 15 researchers and publishing in top journals such as Nature Communications, eLife, PNAS, Cell Research, Advanced Materials, and Biomaterials. The project aims to advance tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, with a particular emphasis on the heart and related biomaterials. Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following: biofabrication, vascularization, silk, hiPSC, heart, cardiomyocytes, microfluidics, or endothelial cells. The position is funded by a large project grant, but specific details about the stipend or tuition coverage are not provided. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Associate Professor Felix Engel directly via email for further information and application instructions. The application deadline is not specified. This opportunity is ideal for candidates interested in cutting-edge research at the intersection of biology, biomedical engineering, and materials science.
