PhD and Postdoctoral Opportunities in Soil Biogeochemistry, Climate Change, and AI-Assisted Biogeochemistry at Nanyang Technological University

Opportunities at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Feng Tao is recruiting for his research group at the NTU Asian School of the Environment (ASE), with openings for 3 PhD students and 3 postdoctoral scholars/research fellows (plus 1 research associate mentioned on the lab page). The PhD positions are full scholarship and are expected to start as early as Spring 2027 . The postdoctoral/research roles can start as early as August 1, 2026 . Research areas include soil biogeochemistry, soil organic carbon formation and persistence, global soil organic carbon age and turnover, soil microbial physiology and carbon use efficiency, enhanced rock weathering for carbon dioxide removal, long-term fate of sequestered carbon across soil-river-ocean systems, soil organic-inorganic carbon interactions, cross-scale land carbon cycle model development, and process-guided / AI-assisted foundation models in biogeochemistry. PhD applicant profile: candidates should be interested in soil biogeochemistry and climate change. Prior publication is not required, and applicants do not need a fully defined thesis idea yet. A strong sense of research topics that excite them is important. Postdoctoral/research role profile: candidates with prior experience in process-based modeling, data analytics, and deep learning are preferred. The role focuses on developing a process-guided and AI-assisted soil community foundation model for natural climate solutions.
