The University of Augsburg is advertising a PhD position in the Faculty of Business and Economics within the research project Designing Early Warning Systems for Approaching Tipping Points , led by Prof. Dr. Florian Diekert and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The project sits at the intersection of economics , environmental economics , mechanism design , climate resilience , and economic experiments . It investigates how early warning systems can improve decision-making in socio-ecological systems that exhibit tipping points, including one-shot and dynamic settings as well as single-agent and strategic multi-agent interaction. The PhD student will conduct economic experiments in Augsburg and collaborate closely with the theoretical team led by Prof. Dr. Daniel Heyen at RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. The role also involves research, teaching, organization, statistical analysis, and communicating scientific findings to researchers, policy makers, and the public. This is a three-year fixed-term position at 75% of regular working hours. If personal and tariff requirements are met, the salary follows Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L . The position is expected to start on 2026-09-15 or by mutual agreement. Applicants should have an MSc degree or equivalent in economics or a related field, with documented expertise in environmental economics and/or mechanism design. Experience with empirical analysis and economic experiments is preferred, and applicants should have strong written and spoken German and English skills.
