Libera Università di Bolzano is advertising a postdoctoral researcher position in the GeDiRL project, starting in January 2027. The project focuses on advanced finite element modelling for crack initiation and propagation during metal powder compaction, with the goal of linking measurable press signals to internal defect formation for inline crack-risk prediction and prevention in industrial production. Research topics include computational fracture mechanics, nonlinear finite element modelling, damage and failure models, material modelling and constitutive laws, and numerical simulation of manufacturing processes. The post will build on prior work with GKN Sinter Metals in powder-compaction modelling, machine learning, process monitoring, and hydraulic-press co-simulation. This is an application-oriented research opportunity with close collaboration with an industrial partner in South Tyrol. The post is aimed at candidates with relevant experience in computational mechanics and related modelling areas.
