PhD position in tumor immunology: tumour-associated neutrophils and colon polyp regression
PhD position in tumor immunology at the Technical University of Munich
The Chair for Infection Pathogenesis at the Technical University of Munich is recruiting a highly motivated PhD candidate for a DFG-funded project on the function of tumour-associated neutrophils (TANs) in the spontaneous regression of colon polyps. The project uses a pig model to study intestinal polyp dynamics and comparative immunology, with a strong translational and mechanistic focus.
The successful candidate will work on TAN phenotypes and functions during intestinal polyp development, including in vivo studies with transgenic animal models, animal breeding, sample collection, histopathology, and in vitro organoid–immune cell co-culture systems. The work also includes molecular, cellular, and immunological assays, data analysis, presentation of results, and manuscript/report preparation.
Relevant academic areas include biology, medical science, veterinary science, immunology, gastrointestinal disease, and organoid-based research. The post is especially suitable for applicants with a Master’s degree or Staatsexamen in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Sciences, Medicine, Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Funding is provided for three years by the German Research Foundation (DFG), with employment under TV-L E13 (65%). The position is based at the School of Life Sciences – Infection Pathogenesis, TUM, at the Weihenstephan Campus in Freising, Germany.
Applicants should have very good written and spoken English, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ideally experience with molecular biology, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, cell culture, or animal models.
