The call focuses on
low-dimensional materials
and
functional/advanced materials
, with research platforms spanning
sensors
,
corrosion inhibitors
,
superconductors
,
energy materials
,
advanced magnetic materials
,
spintronics
,
quantum materials
, and
plasmonic materials
. Students may also work in
material modelling and characterisation
, including surface/interface/transport properties, physical and chemical properties, optical/luminescent/magnetic properties, computer modelling and simulation, quantum chemical/molecular modelling, and theoretical studies using DFT and related semi-empirical methods. An R&D translation component is also mentioned, including technology development and technology demonstrators.

Eligibility highlights:
Master’s applicants should have a BSc Honours or equivalent at
NQF Level 8
in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Doctoral applicants should have a completed Master’s degree at
NQF Level 9
