Ghent University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is offering an assistant position in the Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction and Population Medicine (DI08), focused on bovine herd health. The post is centered on doctoral-level research: at least 50% of the assignment will be devoted to academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation on bovine herd health, alongside teaching and service duties. The successful candidate will assist with teaching in ruminant veterinary medicine and herd health, contribute to internal and external departmental services, and take part in night and weekend duties in the Ambulatory Clinic. This makes the position suitable for candidates who want to combine research, education, and hands-on clinical service in a veterinary academic environment. Eligibility highlights include a Master in Veterinary Medicine, preferably with a major in Ruminants. The degree requirement must be fulfilled by the start of the appointment. Candidates with diplomas from outside the EU must provide a certificate of equivalence (NARIC). The department also looks for an interest in academic or project-based research in bovine herd health, with teaching experience or extra training, conferences, or similar activities considered an advantage. Strong teaching and communication skills are required, and fluent Dutch is necessary to serve clinic clients effectively. The appointment is a temporary AAP position at 100% for two years, renewable twice for two additional two-year terms subject to positive evaluation and within the maximum allowed appointment period. The earliest starting date is 15 September 2026.
