Postdoctoral Research Associate in Nutrient Biogeochemistry, Phosphorus and Nitrogen Management, Soil Science, and Water Quality at University of Maryland
University of Maryland is recruiting a
Postdoctoral Research Associate
in
Nutrient Biogeochemistry
within the Department of Environmental Science & Technology, College Park, Maryland, USA.
The position is hosted by
Professor Gurpal Toor
, whose research program focuses on
nutrient management
,
soil fertility
,
water quality
,
phosphorus
,
nitrogen
, and
biogeochemistry
. The postdoctoral researcher will work on understanding nutrient transformations and losses in agricultural soils and crop production systems, with emphasis on
phosphorus management
,
nitrogen management
,
soil science
, and
sustainable agriculture
.
Responsibilities include field and lab research to determine nutrient fate in soils using chemistry approaches, labeled and stable isotopes, and other advanced techniques; developing new guidelines for using waste products such as biosolids and manure to improve productivity and environmental sustainability; liaising with farmers, non-profits, and state agencies; and collaborating with existing personnel in the group. The work is described as approximately 25% field work, 50% lab work, and 25% writing, though this may change based on project needs.
Eligibility highlights:
a Ph.D. in soil biogeochemistry, plant science, agronomy, soil fertility, ecology, or a related field is required, with emphasis on phosphorus and/or nitrogen in crop production systems. Candidates with experience in row crops, especially corn-soybean systems, are preferred. Applicants must have completed the Ph.D. within the last 5 years and hold a valid US driver's license. The position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
