PhD in Membrane–Protein Interactions via Evolutionary Molecular Dynamics Simulations at TU Dortmund

PhD opportunity in membrane–protein interactions and evolutionary molecular dynamics simulations at TU Dortmund , in the Department of Physics and the group of H. Jelger Risselada . The project is theory/simulation-based biophysics and focuses on understanding how proteins modulate membrane structure and function at the molecular level. The work involves studying membrane–protein systems and implementing/modeling workflows related to evolutionary optimization strategies in coarse-grained heuristic spaces, including chemical space and amino acid space. The position also offers the possibility to become an associated member of the Resolv Excellence Cluster Ruhr area . Degree level: PhD (3 years). Funding: first year salary at 65% E13 (TV-L) . Eligibility highlights: degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field; strong interest and/or experience in biophysics, molecular simulations, and modeling; proficiency in Python; strong scientific reasoning; ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred: experience with molecular simulations and knowledge of statistical mechanics. Deadline: open until 31 August 2026 . How to apply: send a CV, brief motivation letter, and contact details of at least one reference to jelger.risselada@tu-dortmund.de . Use the subject line “PhD Membrane–Protein Interactions (Evo MD)”.
