Hao Dong is recruiting
PhD students
and
postdoctoral researchers
for a new research group at
ELLIS Institute Finland
and
Tampere University
for
Fall 2026 / Spring 2027
.
The group,
Multimodal Intelligence Lab
, focuses on
multimodal learning
,
generative AI
,
vision-language models
,
foundation models
, and
agentic systems
. The research vision emphasizes
reliable and trustworthy machine learning
, especially how advanced models can safely adapt and generalize to new environments.
Research applications include
robotics
,
autonomous driving
,
healthcare
, and
industrial monitoring
. The post highlights interdisciplinary work spanning large-scale foundation models, safe deployment, and practical AI systems.
PhD opening:
The lab is looking for 2–3 PhD students with a strong background in
machine learning
,
computer vision
, or related areas. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in
Computer Science
,
Electrical Engineering
,
Mathematics
, or a related field; strong programming skills in
Python
and
PyTorch
; hands-on deep learning experience; good English; and motivation for independent research and publishing at top venues.
Postdoc opening:
The group is open to hosting 1–2 postdoctoral researchers with expertise in
multimodal learning
,
foundation models
,
generative AI
, or related areas. Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field, a strong publication record, and good English.
Funding:
The PhD positions are fully funded for about 4 years with a starting salary of approximately
€3,000+ per month
plus benefits. Postdoctoral positions are available for up to 3 years with a starting salary of approximately
