Helina Jolly

Helina Jolly, Assistant Professor at the University of Vermont’s Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, is recruiting a PhD student for an interdisciplinary project on Indigenous and Tribal Nations’ perspectives on forest health, stewardship, and climate adaptation in Maine. The project is carried out in partnership with Tribal Nations, researchers at RSENR, and the University of Maine, and is co-supervised by Helina Jolly and Dr. Rachelle Gould. The work is centered on community-engaged research, traditional ecological knowledge, and qualitative/scoping approaches with Tribal partners. The position is fully funded for four years. The selected candidate can begin in Fall 2026 as a paid part-time research assistant with negotiable hours, join team workshops, contribute to a scoping study, and start building relationships with Tribal partners before transitioning into the PhD in January 2027. The role is based in Burlington, Vermont, with fieldwork in Maine. Applicants with experience working with Indigenous or Tribal communities, traditional ecological knowledge, or community-engaged qualitative research in North America are especially encouraged to apply.
