Hong Chen

Two PhD positions are open in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), starting in Fall 2026 or Winter 2027. The positions are supervised by Hong Chen, Assistant Professor and Cisco Research Chair in IoT. Research interests include semantic communication, digital twin, edge intelligence, generative AI and large language models (LLMs), LEO satellite networks, and intelligent IoT systems. Applicants should have a background in ECE, Computer Science, or a related field. A strong academic record is expected, with a minimum GPA of 3.3. PhD applicants must hold a master’s degree with a strong research record, and prior relevant publications are preferred. English language requirements are referenced in the post. Funding for admitted PhD students is described as full financial support, along with opportunities for teaching assistantship, guest lecturing, academic visits/exchanges, and industry visits/internships.
