The project is part of H2030 TIES — Transforming Hydropower: Integrating Flexibility, Ecosystem Health, and Societal Needs — and focuses on the ecological impacts of flexible hydropower operation on freshwater ecosystems. The selected PhD student will combine field monitoring, laboratory experiments, and predictive modelling to study how hydropeaking affects fish populations and critical habitats, with the goal of developing science-based strategies that support hydropower operation while protecting freshwater biodiversity. Relevant academic areas include Environmental Engineering, Ecology, Ecohydraulics, Freshwater Ecology, Biology, and Environmental Science. Experience with aquatic fieldwork, laboratory experiments, data analysis, and hydraulic/habitat-related work is especially valued. Requirements include a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or a closely related field, plus good scientific writing skills and proficiency in English.
