Postdoctoral Research Associate in Planetary Geology and Geochemistry at the University of Portsmouth

Reopened postdoctoral opportunity at the University of Portsmouth for a 42-month Senior Research Associate position in planetary geology and geochemistry . The project is supported by a NERC Pushing the Frontiers grant and investigates hypervelocity impact melting and early crustal evolution , with a focus on how impact melt sheets influenced the evolution of Earth and the Moon. The research combines igneous petrology , petrogenesis , mineral chemistry , microstructures , EBSD , isotope geochemistry , and petrogenetic/thermodynamic modelling . The successful candidate will have access to advanced analytical facilities across partner institutions, including femtosecond LA-ICP-MS/MS , MC-ICP-MS , NanoSIMS , and EPMA . There are also opportunities for fieldwork at Sudbury and other terrestrial impact structures, plus collaboration with Vale Base Metals on implications for world-class Ni–Cu–PGE ore systems . Applicants should have a strong background in igneous petrology or petrogenesis and experience in microanalysis . Interest in expanding into EBSD , isotope and trace-element geochemistry , and modelling is highlighted as desirable. The post is a paid research role with a salary of £36,320–£40,704 per annum . Deadline: 1 November 2026. How to apply: Review the full details at the application link and submit your application through the portal.
