The University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher position in Operator Theory and Complex Analysis at the Department of Physics and Mathematics, Joensuu campus. The appointment is for two years starting on 1 November 2026 (or as agreed). The successful candidate will join the Research Council of Finland project Spectral and Asymptotic Analysis of Structured Matrices and Operators , which explores spectral theory and asymptotic analysis of structured matrices and operators, Crouzeix theory and numerical ranges, and applications to mathematical physics and random matrix theory. The role is research-focused and full-time. Main duties include conducting high-quality research in operator theory and complex analysis, preparing manuscripts for publication, publishing scientific results, presenting at conferences and other academic events, and contributing a small amount of teaching and supervision of PhD and Master’s students (up to 5% of the position). The position offers a salary in accordance with the Finnish university system. The starting salary is approximately EUR 3,985–4,190 per month depending on experience and personal performance. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in mathematics or another relevant field, with the doctorate completed no more than five years before accepting the post (excluding certain career interruptions). Strong spoken and written English is required, together with a solid background in concrete operator theory, complex analysis, and quantum physics. Experience with Toeplitz and related operators, Riemann–Hilbert problems, numerical ranges, and related applications is considered an advantage.
