A fully funded PhD studentship is available at the University of Southampton, focusing on the robust design of critical aero-engine structures under extreme load cases. The project is supported by the EPSRC iCASE studentship and Rolls-Royce plc, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with industry specialists. The successful candidate will engage with Rolls-Royce engineers, including a 3-month secondment to the company, gaining valuable industrial experience in gas turbine engineering. The project is co-supervised by academic staff at Southampton and industrial experts from Rolls-Royce. Applicants with strong interests in AI, software development, data science, and aerospace engineering are encouraged to apply. The funding package includes a tax-free stipend of £18,198 per annum (2023-2024 rate), with an additional increment up to £9,000 per annum from Rolls-Royce, bringing the total stipend in line with graduate recruitment schemes. The stipend will increase in subsequent years, and funding for travel to international conferences is provided.
