Civil and Environmental Engineering
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore is recruiting multiple fully funded PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join a new research group led by Assistant Professor Jingxiao Liu in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The group’s research focuses on civil infrastructure monitoring using distributed sensing (such as distributed fiber-optic sensing and mobile sensing), urban geophysics and seismic noise monitoring, and the application of AI/ML for urban resilience and smart infrastructure. The mission is to develop scalable, cost-effective approaches for monitoring the built and natural environment, advancing safety, sustainability, and resilience. PhD students will receive full funding, including tuition, stipend, and benefits, with opportunities for visiting scholar placements at universities worldwide. Postdocs are offered an initial one-year appointment, extendable up to three years, with competitive packages and access to state-of-the-art facilities. Funding is also available for travel, training, computing resources, and publications. Applicants for the PhD program should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field and demonstrate strong motivation, communication skills, and willingness to engage in fieldwork. Postdoc applicants should have a PhD in a related field, a strong research record, and expertise in distributed fiber-optic sensing, structural health monitoring, structural dynamics, seismology, geophysics, or AI/ML for science and engineering. Preferred skills include experience with large language models, structural testing, distributed sensing, numerical modeling, programming, and distributed computing. To apply, candidates should send their CV, selected publications, transcript, and an optional research statement to [email protected] with the subject line “PhD/Postdoc/RA Application.” More information can be found at http://jingxiao-liu.com/openings.
