Postdoctoral Researcher in AI for Grid Optimization and Power System Modeling at KENTECH AGM Center

Postdoctoral Researcher opening at KENTECH AGM Center (Advanced Grid Modeling Center) in South Korea. The center works on advanced grid modeling for Korea’s energy transition, with a strong focus on power system planning, operations, and analysis using big data, advanced mathematical theory, and high-performance computing. The advertised research theme is AI for GridOpt , including: • Development of AI-based power system reduction models that preserve the characteristics of Korea’s actual grid while reducing complexity. • AI-based generator operation planning and system optimization, including unit commitment (UC) , optimal power flow (OPF) , and economic dispatch (ED) . • Methods such as PINN-based models, warm-starting, decomposition, and acceleration for solving optimization problems. The role is especially relevant for candidates interested in Electrical Engineering , Computer Science , Mathematics , Statistics , and Industrial Engineering , particularly those with backgrounds in artificial intelligence , machine learning , operations research , and large-scale optimization. The post says applicants do not need to be power system majors, and welcomes researchers from AI/ML, OR, applied statistics, energy economics, and other computation-heavy fields. Eligibility requires a PhD or expected PhD completion, strong research achievements, and collaborative capability. Preferred experience includes large-scale optimization, machine learning, or power system research. Funding is a paid postdoctoral position with an annual salary of around 100 million KRW , negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. The center also offers access to real Korean grid data and collaboration opportunities with KPX, KEPCO, and other industry/academic/research partners. How to apply: send your CV and a free-form application describing your research interests and motivation by email to [email protected] . The post indicates applications are accepted until the position is filled.
