This PhD position at the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra focuses on the economic and technical efficiency of smart irrigation systems in specific growing systems. The doctoral research aims to advance the application of innovative irrigation technologies, considering factors such as monitoring of input properties, water consumption, and the quality of irrigation technology. The project will involve literature analysis, experimental research, and the use of AI models for predictive analysis. Key research areas include monitoring selected physical properties, evaluating water consumption under various application parameters, assessing the impact of dosing changes on crop quality, analyzing economic efficiency, and studying the variability of soil properties. The research will contribute to the development of sustainable and efficient irrigation practices in agriculture. The position is supervised by Professor Ján Jobbágy and is based at the Faculty of Engineering in Nitra, Slovakia. The program is not funded by the EU Research Framework Programme. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in engineering, particularly in irrigation technology and economics, and possess practical technical skills. Proficiency in MS Office, basic knowledge of Statistica and AutoCad, and a category B driving license are required. Good command of both English and Slovak is necessary.
