Postdoctoral/Research Engineer Position in Medieval Hebrew Paleography and Manuscript Studies

École Pratique des Hautes Études - PSL in Paris, France is recruiting for a Post-Doctoral / Research Engineer position in Medieval Hebrew Paleography and Manuscript Studies within the ERC Synergy project MiDRASH (Migrations of Textual and Scribal Traditions via Large-Scale Computational Analysis of Medieval Manuscripts in Hebrew Script). The successful candidate will work on the implementation of palaeographical annotations for the digital Hebrew Paleography Album (HebrewPal) and contribute to a collective monograph on the methodology of Hebrew Palaeography. The role includes participation in a weekly research seminar at EPHE, PSL in Paris, regular project meetings, and conferences. The researcher will be affiliated with EA 4116 SAPRAT and based at Campus Condorcet, Aubervilliers/Paris area, with expected physical presence in the office at least one day per week. Research keywords: Hebrew paleography, Jewish studies, Middle Ages studies, manuscript studies, digital humanities, computational analysis, databases, medieval Hebrew manuscripts. Eligibility: PhD or equivalent in Hebrew/Jewish studies of the medieval period completed before the start date; excellent Hebrew; excellent English writing; preferably French; database experience; strong organisation; teamwork; prior experience with medieval Hebrew manuscripts. Funding and contract: Temporary full-time postdoctoral/research engineer contract funded by Horizon Europe / ERC Synergy. Remuneration follows the French decree for post-doctoral researchers or research engineer pay according to experience. Contract duration is 1 year, extendable by 1 additional year.
