PhD Studentship: School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) & ARC EM Joint PhD Studentship at University of Nottingham

[Home tuition fees and an annual tax-free stipend at UKRI rates. Overseas students must fund the remainder of their fees from alternative sources.] The University of Nottingham invites applications for a PhD studentship jointly offered by the NIHR School for Primary Care Research (SPCR) and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands (ARC EM). This opportunity is ideal for individuals seeking to develop a career in primary care research, with a particular focus on healthy ageing. The studentship provides project-specific training in areas of importance to primary care, and further details about training opportunities for SPCR Trainees are available online. The award covers home tuition fees and provides an annual tax-free stipend at UKRI rates. While students with overseas status are welcome to apply, they must provide written confirmation that they can fund the remainder of their fees from alternative sources at the time of application. The studentship is expected to commence on 1 October 2026. Applicants should hold a first degree in a relevant discipline, such as public health, medical statistics, social sciences, health economics, health psychology, or have a clinical background. A strong academic record is essential, and candidates are expected to complete a PhD during the award period. Guidance notes detailing specific research training opportunities are available in the accompanying guidance document. To apply, candidates must complete the application form and submit a CV of no more than 3 pages to [email protected] by 4pm on Monday 13th April 2026. Virtual interviews will be held via MS Teams on 2nd June 2026. Informal queries can be directed to Prof Kate Radford (SPCR Training Lead) or Dr Amy Bourton (SPCR Research Support Manager). This studentship offers a unique opportunity to engage in primary care research at a leading UK institution, with support from experienced supervisors and access to a range of training and development resources. The research focus on healthy ageing aligns with current priorities in public health and medical science, making this an excellent opportunity for motivated candidates interested in advancing their expertise in these fields.
