Funded PhD in Computer Vision, Data Architecture, and Human Factors in Sport Performance Intelligence

Technological University Dublin is recruiting for a fully funded PhD in Computer Vision & Data Architecture for Sport , within a broader Autumn 2026 cohort of funded PhDs in Data Science & AI backed by Research Ireland. This project focuses on human factors and ergonomics in sport performance intelligence . The research will design and build a video data environment from an AI-first perspective, including ingestion, storage, retrieval, and a computer vision layer to support coaches and analysts working under match-day pressure. It sits at the intersection of computer vision , data engineering , sports analytics , and human-centred AI . Funding: €25,000 per year tax-free for four years. EU fees are covered automatically, and non-EU students receive a fee waiver. Additional funds may support conference attendance and training activities. Eligibility/preferences: strong Python skills, genuine interest in CV and data pipelines, and willingness to work across academic and industry settings. A master's degree is helpful but not required. Supervision / contact: Kieran Collins (TU Dublin) is listed as the project contact, with the wider TU Dublin cohort including projects led by Malabika Basu, Maria Chiara Leva, James Loughman, Susan McKeever, Aidan Meade, and Robert Ross. Application window: applications are open for the Autumn 2026 intake and close on 14 June 2026 . Interviews are provisionally scheduled for June, with decisions soon after. How to apply: submit the application via the central form, and if you prefer this project, indicate the lead supervisor in the online application. Direct enquiries can be sent to [email protected].
