PhD Opportunity in Flood Modeling and Management at Oklahoma State University

Oklahoma State University is recruiting a PhD student for a Flood Modeling and Management position in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering , working with the Hydrological Extremes Lab under K.J. Jafarzadegan . This opportunity is centered on research in hydrology , water resources , hydraulic and hydrologic modeling , flood characterization , and flood management . The lab focuses on understanding floods and droughts, developing innovative methods and tools for modeling and mitigating hydrological extremes, and strengthening community resilience. The position is a Graduate Research Assistantship and is intended for a qualified PhD student beginning in Fall 2026 , with Spring 2027 possible for exceptionally qualified candidates. Applicants should have an M.S. degree in engineering, hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field. Preferred preparation includes experience with HEC-RAS , SWMM , or similar flood modeling software, programming in Python or related languages, machine learning or AI methods for environmental data analysis, and strong quantitative/statistical skills. Preference will be given to applicants already in the United States or those holding a valid U.S. visa who can start by Fall 2026.
