Nanoparticle-based drug delivery to the central nervous system

Aston University is offering a fully funded PhD opportunity focused on optimising strategies for brain delivery using liposome- and polymeric-based nanoparticles. The project is part of the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP) and is supervised by Dr Lissette Sanchez-Aranguren, with Dr Mandeep Marwah as secondary supervisor. The research aims to engineer and optimise nanoparticles to cross the brain’s protective barriers and deliver therapeutics more effectively, combining expertise in nanotechnology, pharmacology, and translational neuroscience. Students will develop skills in nanoparticle formulation, physicochemical characterisation, and in vivo evaluation of brain-targeted delivery systems. The interdisciplinary project will advance understanding of nanoparticle design principles for CNS applications, supporting the development of next-generation therapies for neurological disorders. Applicants should have a strong background in biomedical sciences, neuroscience, pharmacology, or related fields, and meet the MIBTP PhD programme requirements.
