Co-creating a HealthTech Evaluation Approach for People with Long-term Conditions

This fully-funded PhD studentship at Coventry University offers an exciting opportunity to co-create a HealthTech evaluation approach that truly reflects what matters most to people living with one or more long-term conditions. The project addresses the limitations of current HealthTech evaluation methods, which often fail to capture the priorities and experiences of technology users with chronic health issues. By employing co-creation strategies, the research aims to supplement traditional patient outcome measures with insights from patients, their families, and communities. Supported by the NIHR Devices for Dignity HRC, which specializes in innovative health technologies for long-term conditions, this project will compare and contrast existing evaluation approaches for their appropriateness and acceptability. The goal is to design and present measures that are both valid and user-friendly, reducing barriers to participation in HealthTech studies. The successful candidate will join the Centre for Arts, Memory and Communities and benefit from comprehensive research training, including technical, personal, and professional skills development. All researchers at Coventry University are part of the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability and Development, which provides high-quality training and career development support. Funding for this position includes full tuition fees and a stipend/bursary. Entry requirements include a minimum of a 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline, with at least 60% in the project element or equivalent and a minimum 60% overall module average. Applicants must demonstrate the potential to engage in innovative research and complete the PhD within 3.5 years. English language proficiency is required, with an IELTS academic overall minimum score of 7.0 and at least 6.5 in each component. Experience in psychometrics, design, or co-creation is advantageous. To apply, candidates should prepare full supporting documentation, a covering letter, and a 2000-word supporting statement outlining their expertise and interests relevant to the project. For further information, contact Prof LM Moody at [email protected]. Applications can be submitted via the FindAPhD portal by the deadline of May 27, 2026.
