Postdoctoral Researcher in Psychology / Human–AI Interaction (ERC LLMpathy)

Postdoctoral Researcher in Psychology / Human–AI Interaction at the University of Bonn, within the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it) and the Data Science Lab of Prof. Dr. Lucie Flek. This position is part of the ERC-funded project LLMpathy: Human Alignment and Reasoning for Artificial Social Intelligence . The project studies how psychological traits, values, empathy, trust, and social reasoning shape interactions with large language models (LLMs) and other conversational AI systems. The role is strongly research-oriented and interdisciplinary. The successful candidate will design and conduct psychological studies and human-AI interaction experiments, develop and evaluate measurement instruments, support longitudinal data collection, and analyze behavioral and questionnaire data using quantitative methods. Collaboration with AI researchers is a key part of the work, including evaluation of AI systems. The post also includes co-leading the project, mentoring PhD students, and contributing to international publications. Eligibility highlights include a PhD in psychology, cognitive science, HCI, computational social science, or a related field; experience with psychological experiments or human-subject research; and strong quantitative/data-analysis skills. Experience with IRT or causal/statistical analyses is a plus. The team especially welcomes applicants with strong English writing skills, publication experience, and interest in human-AI interaction. The appointment is full-time, fixed-term for 1 year, and paid according to TV-L EG 13.
