Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Wearable Sensing, Biomechanics, Signal Processing and Electronic Hardware

University of Cambridge SENSE Lab is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a one-year, full-time position at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus . The role focuses on wearable sensing , biomechanics , signal processing , and electronic hardware , with a strong translational emphasis: taking novel wearable medical devices from academic prototypes toward clinical adoption. The devices measure body and eye movement metrics and connect with rehabilitation apps to support treatment of vestibular and balance disorders . The lab is working at the intersection of algorithm design, human biomechanics, electronic engineering, and hardware development. Activities may include developing algorithms for clinically meaningful metrics, building device testing platforms (web/smartphone/tablet apps), running experiments for data collection and usability testing, prototyping electronic hardware, integrating sensors/electronics/firmware/software, and ensuring compliance with medical device regulations. Two main applicant profiles are highlighted: (A) biomechanics, movement science, or biomedical engineering with experience in IMUs, wearable sensing, signal processing, sensor fusion, and algorithm validation; or (B) PCB design and prototyping, microcontrollers, embedded programming, biosignal acquisition hardware, and integration. Applicants outside these profiles may still be considered if their background is well suited. Appointment at Research Associate level (Grade 7) requires a PhD. Candidates who have submitted but not yet had their PhD conferred may be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5). Funding is secured for 12 months, with possible extension depending on additional funding. Deadline: 1 November 2026. Apply: use the provided application link. Informal enquiries: Professor Manohar Bance ([email protected]) or Dr Iwan Roberts ([email protected]).
