Trinity College Dublin is advertising a
fully funded 4-year PhD position
in
immunotherapy-associated thrombosis in cancer
, based in the
Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics
, School of Medicine. The project is supported by a
Trinity Research Doctorate Award (TRDA)
and will be carried out across Trinity College Dublin, the Trinity St James’s Cancer Institute, and St James’s Hospital.
This interdisciplinary PhD focuses on how
cancer immunotherapy
changes
immune cells
and
blood vessels
in ways that increase the risk of blood clots. The research combines
immune and endothelial cell biology
,
single-cell transcriptomics
,
translational oncology
,
vascular biology
,
bioinformatics
, and longitudinal patient cohorts to investigate the mechanisms driving immunotherapy-associated thrombosis and to support future biomarker development.
The successful candidate will receive training in experimental and computational methods, including primary cell culture, flow cytometry, thrombosis/coagulation assays, molecular biology, scRNA-seq analysis, translational bioinformatics, and scientific communication. The environment is described as supportive and multidisciplinary, with opportunities to work on cancer immunology, cancer metastasis, liquid biopsy research, and collaborative translational projects.
Funding:
TRDA-funded PhD, fully funded for four years, with a stipend of
€25,000 per annum
and fees included. Expected start date is
September 2026

Eligibility:
Open to graduates in immunology, biochemistry, pharmacology, molecular or cellular biology, biomedical science, or translational medicine. A minimum 2.1 honours degree or equivalent is required; a relevant master’s degree and prior lab/computational experience are desirable. Applicants must meet Trinity College Dublin PhD entry requirements.
