The Department of Biology and the Center for Synthetic Microbiology at Philipps-Universität Marburg are advertising a PhD position in Bacterial Cell Biology within the Research Training Group Microbial Nucleotide Metabolism (GRK 2937) , funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) . The project is hosted by the research group Bacterial Cell Biology led by Prof. Dr. Martin Thanbichler . The PhD project focuses on the mechanisms driving bacterial DNA segregation , especially the function and organization of the conserved ParAB S partitioning system . The work combines cell biology , genetics , biochemistry , biophysics , structural biology , proteomics , ChIP-seq , and computational approaches . Key tasks include live-cell fluorescence microscopy to analyze protein localization dynamics, biochemical and biophysical characterization of purified proteins, system-wide interaction analyses, and communication of results through publications and conference presentations. This is a paid doctoral research assistant position with salary according to TV-H E 13 at 65% employment for 3 years . The position starts as soon as possible . Applicants should hold an M.Sc. degree or equivalent in molecular microbiology or biochemistry . Required experience includes standard molecular biology techniques, genetic manipulation of bacteria, protein purification, and biochemical characterization. Familiarity with biological/structural biology software and databases is expected. Prior experience with ChIP-seq analysis , fluorescence microscopy , or bioinformatics is advantageous. Strong English communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international, interdisciplinary environment are important.
