PhD opportunity in chemistry and materials science at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany , within the IMPRS for Functional Material Design . The project, “From well-defined glycans to responsive nanomaterials,” is hosted by the Carbohydrate Materials group and focuses on how the sequence and architecture of synthetic polysaccharides control self-assembly, and how external stimuli such as humidity, temperature, or pH can be used to create responsive materials. Research topics include glycan synthesis , materials characterization , electron microscopy , and computational modelling . The project is in collaboration with Yu Ogawa (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces) and Myfanwy Evans (University of Potsdam). Eligibility: candidates should hold an MSc in chemistry or a related field and have a background or strong interest in organic chemistry and/or materials science . Position length: 4 years .
