Statistician (Postdoc or PhD Candidate)
The Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS GmbH in Bremen, Germany, is recruiting several
Statistician (Postdoc or PhD candidate)
positions for work in methodological and applied health research. The positions are embedded in the institute’s broader prevention research programme, with strong links to large epidemiological cohort studies, the NAKO Health Study, and secondary health insurance data.
Research will be organized around one of five methodological themes:
Causal Inference
(including target trial emulation and double-robust estimation),
Machine Learning
(including interpretable ML and tabular foundation models),
Statistical analysis of cohort data
,
Statistical modelling of health behaviours and complex exposures
(for example wearable sensor and omics data), and
Statistical analysis of health insurance data
(including survival analysis and quantitative bias analysis). The role is therefore well suited to candidates interested in modern statistical methodology applied to epidemiology and public health.
Main tasks include developing new statistical methods, applying them to health data, participating in international collaborations, publishing and presenting results, developing software packages, and co-supervising students. Postdoctoral researchers are also expected to help with external funding applications and to develop independent research projects.
Applicants should hold a Master’s or PhD degree (or equivalent) in (bio-)statistics, (bio-)mathematics, data science, computer science, or a related field. A strong statistics background is required, together with programming experience in R, Python, or SAS; C++ or Java are considered beneficial.
