Doctoral Researcher (Biomedicine)

Doctoral Researcher (Biomedicine) at Tampere University, Finland Tampere University is inviting applications for a full-time Doctoral Researcher position in biomedicine, with a strong focus on neurodegenerative research. The work is based at Kauppi Campus within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET), and is embedded in the Regulatory Genomics group in the Biomedicine unit. The project investigates how microglial states emerge in response to neurodegenerative disease-related stressors and how these states appear in diseased brain tissue. The research uses advanced single-cell and spatial genomics approaches, together with computational inference methods, to study glial gene regulation and disease-related regulatory programs. This is a three-year fixed-term PhD-level research position. The selected candidate will be able to focus on doctoral research full-time, work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the wider faculty environment through supervision, education, or related tasks supporting their studies. The group emphasizes spatial and temporal dynamics of gene regulation, cell type-specific regulatory programs, and the role of genetic variation in disease onset and progression. Eligibility highlights include a Master’s degree in biosciences or a related field, completed before the start date; basic experience in cell culture and laboratory work; preferably some experience with genomics assays; and an advantage for candidates with computational biology experience. Strong spoken and written English is required. Applicants must be pursuing or accepted into the Doctoral Programme in Medicine, Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering. The planned starting date is late 2026 or early 2027, or as mutually agreed. The position offers a typical starting salary of approximately EUR 2750–2900 per month under the Finnish University Salary System, with increases based on experience and doctoral progress. Tampere University also highlights a supportive research environment, mentoring, structured training, modern infrastructure, and a vibrant campus setting in Tampere, Finland. Applications must be submitted through the university’s online recruitment system by 2026-09-15 at 23:59 EEST. Required attachments include a CV, a one-page motivation letter, degree certificates and transcripts, and optional supporting documents such as a thesis, relevant publications, or a list of referees. All application materials must be in English and submitted as PDF files.

Tampere University

Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Biomedicine)

Tampere University is offering a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Biomedicine) position in the Regulatory Genomics research group at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology (MET), Finland. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years, based at Kauppi Campus in Tampere. The project is focused on neurodegenerative research and investigates how microglial states emerge in response to disease-related stressors and how these states are reflected in diseased brain tissue. The work sits at the intersection of biomedicine, neuroscience, genomics, and computational biology , with an emphasis on the spatial and temporal dynamics of gene regulation in disease. The research group uses single-cell and spatial genomics to map cell type-specific regulatory programs relevant to disease onset and progression. The successful candidate will contribute to advanced experimental and/or computational analyses, including computational inference approaches for studying glial gene regulation . The broader research environment at MET spans clinical medicine, translational medicine, molecular biology, biotechnology, cell biology, biomedical engineering, biomaterials, and biorobotics. Applicants should have a relevant doctoral degree completed by the starting date, with backgrounds such as biomedicine, neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, or genomics. Experience in experimental or computational neuroscience and/or single-cell or spatial genomics is expected, along with strong motivation, independence, good networking and interpersonal skills, willingness to mentor junior researchers, and fluency in English. The position offers a competitive salary under the Finnish University Salary System, with a typical starting salary of approximately 3900-4000 EUR/month . Tampere University highlights its strong collaborative networks, international research environment, and supportive staff benefits. The university and city of Tampere are presented as an attractive setting for researchers, with strong academic infrastructure and quality of life. Application deadline: 2026-09-15. Applications must be submitted via the online recruitment system, and all materials must be in English and uploaded as PDF files. Required attachments include a CV (per TENK guidelines), publication list, one-page motivation letter describing research and professional development goals, doctoral degree certificate or proof of thesis defense date, and contact information for two referees.
