Postdoctoral Scholar in Synthetic Biology, Neuroscience, and Molecular Engineering

Postdoctoral Scholar opening at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering in the Simic Laboratory . The lab works at the intersection of synthetic biology , cell engineering , neuroscience , and immunology to develop new tools and cell-based therapies for brain disorders and neurodegenerative diseases . Research directions include engineered cellular sensors for disease detection and treatment, cell therapies for neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration, and synthetic cellular perturbation systems for studying brain function. The postdoc will design and execute independent projects involving synNotch receptors, CAR systems, molecular cloning, protein engineering, mammalian cell culture, in vivo mouse studies, and analysis of complex datasets. Required background includes a PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related field, plus strong experience in molecular biology, cell culture, protein engineering, and standard techniques such as PCR, cloning, Western blotting, and flow cytometry. Preferred experience includes neurodegeneration models, spatial transcriptomics, CRISPR screening, advanced microscopy, CAR-T or T cell biology, and programming in R, Python, or MATLAB. The position is benefits-eligible and paid on the NIH NRSA stipend scale, with a listed range of $62,232–$67,824 .
