A PhD Fellow position in
Pharmacoepidemiology
is available at the
Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway
in Tromsø. The position is linked to the
IPSUM
research group (Identification and Prevention of Suboptimal Use of Medication) and the
GENESIS
project on real-world evidence, early-life medication exposure, and better health outcomes across the lifespan.
The project examines
glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs)
, which are increasingly used for obesity and type 2 diabetes among women of reproductive age. Because current clinical guidance recommends discontinuation when pregnancy is planned, the project will study pregnancies that occur during or shortly after GLP-1RA use. Using
Norwegian linked health registries
and
advanced statistical methods
, the PhD will generate evidence on safety outcomes around conception and contribute to more robust guidance for pregnancy planning, with potential benefits for mothers and children.
The research environment covers pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy, pharmacoepidemiology, intervention studies, qualitative and quantitative approaches, and health economics. A research stay abroad with co-supervisors is planned, and the final project description will be developed together with the supervisor.
This is a
four-year PhD appointment
. The nominal PhD period is three years, while the fourth year is distributed as 25% each year and consists of teaching and other duties. Admission to the PhD programme at UiT’s Faculty of Health Sciences is a prerequisite for employment. Applicants should have a relevant master’s degree or be near completion, and must demonstrate English proficiency and suitability for research training. Experience with a master’s thesis or related scientific work is an advantage, but not required.
The salary is normally
580,000 NOK per year
with a 3% yearly increase, together with standard Norwegian public-sector benefits including pension, insurance, and welfare schemes. The application deadline is
