This innovative research, funded by the Research Ireland Pathway Programme and supervised by Dr Damian Palin in the School of Engineering, aims to revolutionize cementitious materials by incorporating designer hydrogels inspired by biomineralised tissues such as bone and seashell. The project seeks to enhance the tensile strength of cement binders at sub-millimetre scales, enabling the creation of structural materials that require significantly less cement, thus supporting sustainability in construction. The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment with access to world-class materials development facilities at Trinity College Dublin. The project features collaboration with leading international academics, including Prof. Daniel Kelly (TCD), Assoc.
