Fully Funded PhD in Computational and Experimental Materials Physics for All-Solid-State Energy Storage Devices

PhD opportunity at Keele University in computational materials physics , materials science , and energy storage . The project is a joint computational and experimental studentship on high-performance all-solid-state energy storage devices , bringing together the Morbec Modelling Group and the Bala Materials Lab . The research topic is design-make-test-learn of interfaces and electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries (ASSBs). The project aims to address key challenges in ASSBs, including poor ionic conductivity, unstable electrode-electrolyte interfaces, and manufacturing issues, using a combination of first-principles computational modelling , experimental synthesis, characterisation, and device fabrication. This is a fully funded PhD scholarship for 3 years. Funding includes a stipend at UKRI rates and 100% UK level tuition fees . The advert also notes that international fee waivers may be considered . Supervisors/contacts mentioned include Juliana M. Morbec (Lecturer in Physics, Keele University) and Dr Nilanthy Balakrishnan (Senior Lecturer, Keele University). Relevant research interests include materials modelling , electrochemical behaviour , electrical transport , optical properties , and advanced materials for sustainable energy technologies. Deadline: 29 May 2026. Applicants are instructed to quote reference FNS_FacSCPS 2026 on the application.
