King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is advertising a postdoc opportunity in simulation-based PSHA within the Earth Science / geophysics area. The project uses MCQsim , a physics-based earthquake simulator that models long-term stress accumulation and space-time-dependent earthquake occurrence on geometrically complex fault systems. The goal is to generate simulation-based earthquake rupture forecasts and use them in a probabilistic seismic hazard assessment (PSHA) framework, with an existing interface to OpenQuake . The postdoc will generate hazard products from MCQsim catalogs, including rupture forecasts, hazard curves, uniform-hazard spectra, and hazard maps; validate simulated hazard against observed seismicity and existing hazard models; benchmark against state-of-practice PSHA; and help define quantitative validation metrics. Target regions mentioned include the East and North Anatolian fault systems and other test sites developed with collaborators. Required background includes a PhD in seismology, geophysics, earthquake engineering, or a related field; strong PSHA experience (source models, MFDs, GMM selection, logic trees, hazard integration, disaggregation); familiarity with a PSHA code preferably OpenQuake; Python programming; and comfort with Linux/HPC environments. A publication record and strong English skills are also expected. Funding is described as a competitive salary with housing, medical coverage, and family support such as schooling.
