Associate Professor Tenure Track in Literature and Art Research

The University of Jyväskylä’s Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies is recruiting two Associate Professors (Tenure Track) for five-year fixed-term appointments starting 2 August 2027 . One position is in literature and the other in art research (with expertise in art history or art education ). The literature position focuses on literary studies, including Finnish and comparative literature, contemporary literature and culture, and research on ethical and political questions of difference, diversity, otherness, and power. The art research position focuses on art history, art education, visual culture, aesthetics, art pedagogy, and arts-based methods. Both roles are embedded in a multidisciplinary department that also includes creative writing, museology, music education, music therapy, musicology, contemporary culture studies, and game studies. These are academic staff positions with teaching, supervision, curriculum development, research leadership, and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidates will teach at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, supervise theses, contribute to research development, and actively seek external funding. The university expects strong theoretical and methodological expertise, international networking, and experience in research projects. Eligibility highlights: a relevant doctoral degree, strong scientific research record, ability to build international networks, high-quality teaching and supervision skills, and potential for promotion to full professor. For both positions, proficiency in Finnish and English is required ; ability to teach in English is an asset.
