This postdoctoral position is based in the

Department of Communication Sciences
. The project sits at the intersection of
music, artificial intelligence, and computational research
, with a focus on the
Beethoven AI project
. The project develops AI technologies for
real-time musical co-creation
, including an AI-driven Beethoven agent that can interact with performers during live orchestral concerts.
The appointed researcher will contribute to the development and evaluation of technologies for
music generation
and
orchestration
, as well as testing, staging/deployment setup, rehearsal support, documentation, iterative bug fixing, and post-rehearsal refinement. This is a research-and-development oriented role that combines creative AI, computational music methods, and practical implementation in a live-performance environment.
Eligibility highlights:
applicants should hold a doctoral degree in
musicology, music engineering, artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related field
. The ideal candidate has expertise in
computational music research, AI for music, music information retrieval, generative AI
, or related areas, and experience with interdisciplinary work at the interface of
music, technology, and AI
. Strong analytical and communication skills are required, along with the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
Funding and contract:
the appointment is a
fixed-term contract
at
20% occupancy
for
9 months
. Salary is based on the Ghent University scales for doctoral degree holders (
PD1 to PD4
).
