From Waste to Products: Hydrothermal and Biological Valorisation of Waste Streams for the Bioeconomy
. This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position in the Faculty of Environmental and Energy Engineering / Institute of Environmental Engineering and Building Installations, located in Poznan, Poland.
The project is focused on developing innovative biotechnological processes for converting waste streams into valuable products, with a strong emphasis on monitoring and controlling fermentation and related bioprocesses. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team on analytical method development, process optimization, bioreactor operation, microbiological and chemometric analysis, and sample preparation for meta-omics workflows. The work also includes maintenance of lab-scale bioreactors and analytical instrumentation, technical reporting, publication support, and participation in dissemination activities.
Funding and contract:
The role is funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the European Funds for a Modern Economy Programme 2021–2027, Action 2.3 – TEAM NET. The salary is
PLN 13,000 gross per month
. The initial appointment runs from
1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027
(12 months), with the possibility of extension for an additional 12–24 months depending on project funding and satisfactory performance.
Eligibility highlights:
Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in biotechnology or analytical chemistry laboratories is important, as is familiarity with bioreactors, process systems, chromatographic techniques such as GC or HPLC, and biotechnological process monitoring. Experience with molecular biology methods and meta-omics sample preparation is beneficial. Good English is required, and Polish is an advantage.
