Postdoctoral Researchers in Quantum Networks and Quantum Sensing with Thin-Film Lithium Niobate at ETH Zurich
ETH Zurich’s Optical Nanomaterial Group in the Department of Physics (D-PHYS) is recruiting
two postdoctoral researchers
for
3-year projects
in
quantum networks
and
quantum sensing
using
thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN)
photonic integrated circuits.
The projects focus on advanced
quantum photonics
, including nanofabrication and optical characterization of TFLN circuits, frequency conversion, quantum light sources, electro-optic modulation, entangled photon-pair generation, squeezed vacuum generation, and experiments relevant to quantum communications and sensing.
One position targets
quantum networks
, aiming to connect quantum memories operating at visible wavelengths with telecom-band photons for long-distance transmission. The other targets
quantum sensing
, including phase estimation and absorption measurements with undetected photons, with applications such as gas sensing. The sensing project is part of a QuantERA collaboration with Imperial College London, the University of Oxford, and ICFO.
Applicants should have experience in
integrated photonics
,
nonlinear optics
,
quantum photonics
,
quantum information
, or
spontaneous parametric down-conversion
. The role involves theory, simulation, design, some nanofabrication, characterization, and quantum information experiments, and you will work closely with other postdocs and PhD students in the group.
The target start date is between
October 2026 and January 2027
