This postdoctoral associate position in Earth, Atmospheric & Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) offers the opportunity to work with the Climate Modeling Alliance (CliMA), a collaborative team involving MIT, Caltech, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The project focuses on developing a next-generation, GPU-based climate model that learns physics from data to improve the accuracy of climate projections. The successful candidate will collaborate with oceanographers, mathematicians, and software engineers to develop, validate, and utilize the ocean component of this innovative climate model, which is built using the Julia programming language for flexibility and extensibility. The position requires a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, atmospheric or oceanic sciences, computer science, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related field, along with a strong background in physical, mathematical, and computational sciences. Experience with programming (preferably Julia), parallel computing, and effective communication skills are essential. The role demands self-motivation, independent research capability, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment.
