PhD Student or Master's Research Fellowship in Communication Sciences and Social Sciences (BRCM_2026_01)
A PhD student research fellowship, or alternatively a Master enrolled in a non-academic degree course research fellowship, is open at the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS), University of Minho, Braga, Portugal, under reference BRCM_2026_01.
The fellowship is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) within the multi-annual financing of CECS (2025–2029), specifically tied to the Barómetro and eCommunitas platforms. The grant provides a monthly maintenance allowance of 1359.64 EUR, together with reimbursement of voluntary social security contributions and personal accident insurance. The planned duration is 6 months, with a provisional start in January 2027 and the possibility of renewal within the legal limit.
The work will be carried out at CECS, University of Minho, under the scientific supervision of Professors Doctors Rafaela Granja and Rita Araújo. The research and support tasks include qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, preparation of technical reports, research on information quality and the information ecosystem, website updating, audio and video editing, social media management, event organization, and hosting the Estados do Tempo podcast.
This opportunity is aimed at candidates in Communication Sciences, Social Sciences, or related areas, with a strong emphasis on research methods and applied communication work. Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, or demonstrate the conditions to enroll in the relevant doctoral or non-academic degree course, depending on the fellowship category. Experience in collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative data is required, and preference is given to candidates with English proficiency, prior research project experience, skills in statistical and qualitative analysis software, web/audio/video editing experience, and event organization experience.

The selected fellow will work under exclusivity in accordance with the applicable Portuguese research fellowship regulations.
