PhD Studentship - Agile SPAD Sensor Image Processing

[Funding is provided for this project; open to Home and Overseas students.] PhD Studentship in Agile SPAD Sensor Image Processing at The University of Edinburgh . This project develops novel image-processing pipelines for large-array-format SPAD sensors to build optimised computer vision systems. The research explores how single-photon detection and in-pixel computation can be used to improve resolution, dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, and motion capture in difficult visual scenes. The work is application-driven and will involve deploying the resulting SPAD sensor and ISP in a real computer vision setting, such as robotic navigation, fall detection, or human tracking. Expected deliverables include a bespoke ISP for single-photon input data, a demonstration system with application-specific optimisation, and analysis of how to partition processing between the ISP and in-pixel compute. The project is supported by STMicroelectronics and includes close engagement with the STMicroelectronics Imaging Division in Edinburgh. The posting references related work by I.
